CICADA - Ritar, Frost, Bradley //
----------------------------------
Cicada is a collaboration between artists Kirsten
Bradley, Nick Ritar and Ben Frost
who work as a creative team exploring landscapes -
- urban, natural, sonic, constructed and imagined.
Outputs from such explorations include screen
based works, public artworks, interactive
installations, live audiovisual performances and
projection design for theatre and dance. From 2000-2002 Kirsten was a prominent artist in
the Sydney audiovisual performance scene, creating
video for and touring nationally with outfits such
as the Bird Collective. From 2002 onwards, Kirsten
and Nick joined forces to produce a range of
audiovisual projects, such as stealthvideo for the
2002 Adelaide Fringe, and travelled and performed
throughout Europe. Later that year, Cicada
produced and performed in an acclaimed audiovisual
event commissioned for Electrofringe 2002,
Birdcage, at which they performed with Ben Frost,
a musician of uncannily dark beauty.
Following this first collaboration, the three
artists all got very excited about working
together and since that time have produced a wide
range of acclaimed audiovisual works,
performances, and installations. Their
collaborative work tends to explore our
relationship with nature and public space, and has
also frequently looked at re-purposing and
re-considering everyday urban landscapes as
possible spaces for discourse and discovery.
Commissions and exhibitions include Amensal for
Luminosity Project, Adelaide 2004 and Re_Squared
for Primavera, Sydney 2003.
