Nick started his art practice experimenting with video projection in the mid nineteen nineties after a long-term fascination with using computers to generate images and animations. Later Nick became involved with Octapod an artist run space in Newcastle NSW, and the annual alternative arts festivals they produce. This experience encouraged him to pursue a future in the arts and in 2001 he joined forces with Kirsten and later Ben to produce work under the name Cicada.
 
Other projects that keep him away from art include

• Milkwood.net - a video blog that document Kirsten and Nick's move to a remote, empty blog of land to set up a farm based on permaculture principles.
• Milkwood Permaculture - as a permaculture designer and educator.
